Rod Edwards

Monmouth, UK

It turns out that my passion didn't rest in Maths and Physics after all!

Art Influences

Perhaps it was inevitable that I would be drawn towards a creative path. My mother, an accomplished professional hand glass engraver, an avid amateur calligrapher and a very respectable watercolourist, undoubtedly influenced my artistic path.

Beginnings

My journey began at The Somerset Trust for Nature Conservation, where I was entrusted with creating graphics and handcrafted signage for their Estate, Arboretum, and managed lands in the breathtaking scenery of the Quantock Hills.

Professionalism

Fuelling my passion for lettering and craftsmanship, I pursued studies in Calligraphy and Bookbinding at Digby Stuart College, now a part of the University of Roehampton, in South West London. Under the mentorship and nomination of Donald Jackson MVO, I was honoured to be elected a Fellow of the London-based Society of Scribes and Illuminators.

My professional journey has been a whirlwind of creativity, working alongside my wife Angela, serving a diverse array of UK companies, private individuals and collectors. From The Royal Schools of Music to The British Board of Boxing Control, from The National Teachers Awards to The Royal Society of London, and from the BBC to Royal Mail, Sky TV, and the Welsh Rugby Union, my work has spanned across a multitude of Businesses, Chartered Organisations and Charities.

For the past two decades, I have had the privilege of crafting annual Awards, initially for Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and now, since 2023, for His Majesty King Charles III.

Commitment to Art

Amidst my professional endeavours, I have remained dedicated to producing personal, artistic calligraphy, showcasing and selling my work at esteemed venues such as the V&A shop, The Crafts Council of Wales Gallery, and New Leaf Gallery in Monmouth.

Evolution

Over time, my artistic work has evolved towards a painterly and personally more self-expressive, explorative and authentic non-objective/abstract practice, which I am delighted to share with you here.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about my journey. I'm excited to showcase my original paintings and prints with you, each piece infused with my lifelong dedication to creativity, discernment, quality and originality.
